3. Adyar Cancer Institute
Founded in 1954 by Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, the Adyar Cancer Institute is a top ranking cancer institute in India according to the World Health Department (WHO). It was the first institute in India which received the Cobalt-60 Therapy Unit for cancer treatment. The hospital provides free treatment to the financially poor segment of the society which makes up to around 63% of the patients. Other patients also receive subsidized rates for their treatment.

The Govt. Hospital of Thoracic Medicine proves to be the biggest HIV/AIDS center in the whole of India. The hospital was, at first, a TB hospital but became a AIDS center with the admission of TB patients who were also infected with HIV virus. The hospital provides free HIV screening and treatment is provided free of cost as well. TB patients who are under-privileged can avail free services or at affordable rates.
