Kirthiga Reddy is a business woman by birth! The former Managing Director at Facebook India has the honor of being the first employee of the social media giant as well as being the mind that has helped the company grow more and more in India. She was featured in Fortune India’s Top 50 Most powerful women in 2011.
Work and history
Reddy was born in India to middle-class parents. Her father was a government employee while her mother was a homemaker. She completed her bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the Mahatma Gandhi Mission’s College of Computer Science and Information Technology Nanded, Maharashtra and stood second in her graduation. After her graduation, she moved to Nagpur along with her parents and had a brief stint helping Yashavant Kanetkar with the programming examples seen in his books that illustrate key concepts. Later she moved to United States to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration from Stanford University and also gained an M.S. in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University.
Working with Facebook
Kirthiga joined Facebook in July 2010. As the first employee of the company in the country, not only did she have to start the operations from scratch she then had to actually open the office shutters on day one. Under her guidance though, Facebook India has managed grown its user base as well as making significant contributions to the global business through the use of ad sales with major tie-ups like Coca Cola India and Yepme. Recently, she has announced her resignation and is going back to U.S. Given the standards established by Kirthiga from the time Facebook established a office, the team is still searching for a suitable successor for her. During her tenure, the achievements, the milestones Facebook has achieved is commendable. The business woman from India is a truly the power woman of India!
