Pondy bazaar is the place to go to, if you haven’t yet found the best accessory for your outfit. You get bangles, earrings, bags, beads, ethnic as well as western clothes, fancy watches, footwear and what not? It is known to be one of the liveliest places in Chennai for shopping. Parry’s corner which is also known as a shoppers delight was once the centre for trade of wholesale goods. It is known as the hub for goods in bulk earlier and stays so till date. For Textiles it is godown street, Angappa naicken street for eateries of various kinds-go to this street and your taste buds are sure to get satisfied, Thambu chetty street for ceramic tiles and sanitary ware, Anderson street for stationary, Broadway for cycles and optical goods. You also get electrical goods, chemical and surgical equipments, dry fruits and rice and glassware and photo framing.
Sowcarpet is located in the northern part of Chennai. It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods with old vintage buildings and narrow streets. Shopping here is like shopping at Linking road in Bombay and Commercial street in Bangalore. This is a wholesale bazaar where all products are available at unbelievable prices. It has Mint street which is famous for designer sarees and salwars, jain temples, steel products, jewellery shops and eateries.
This place houses the best of eatery stalls since a lot of north Indian restaurants and street foods stalls have been set up here. There is Perumal mudali street which is famous for all types of bangle varieties such as glass, plastic, artistic bangles, etc. If you are looking for plastic chairs, decorative and gift articles, plastic cups, plates walk into Narayana Mudali street which has various shops for you to choose from. There is also Kasi chetty street where imported items such as chocolates, candies, electronic items, shoes, clothes are all available.
